Passion Project
Illustrations
Outside of the day-to-day hustle as a designer I find my passion refuelled through illustration. I have been drawing ever since I can remember, it is where I always went to express myself. My illustrations are a good window into some of my other passions, the music I listen to, the television and film I watch and even the games I play.
Posters & Scenes
Growing up as an anime kid, tv posters we a huge source of inspiration for me. I loved seeing the magic of an anime opening captured in a single image slapped on a poster or the cover of a box set.
Portraits
I really started my art journey with drawing character portraits. The first time I can remember drawing a character was when I first learned what anime was in the 6th grade. All of my friends started watching InuYasha on YTVs (shoutout Canadian tv network) anime Friday nights. Every Saturday we would take out our sketchbooks and try and draw the characters from the show. This deep love for character portraits has only continued as I have grown and developed my art styles.
Character Design
As an artist who plays a lot of TTRPGs (Table top roleplaying games) I end up designing a lot of characters. I take reference for each character from all different places and bring my costume design background into play when thinking about what that character looks like and how they live in each world setting. Here are a few character designs I’ve done over the years.
Comics
Getting into comic paneling is new exploration within my art. I see it as a great continuation in my visual storytelling as I develop longer scenes and sequences for my characters and the worlds they inhabit.
